It’s perfect weather for mowing the meadow now and we should be able to produce hay again this year. The picture shows one of our volunteers, Oksana from Ukraine, developing her skills.
Please keep people and dogs off the grass until it’s all cut, turned and gathered up. If the grass is flattened it’s harder to cut with the scythes! Then we can play on the field again.

This shows Anna, one of our directors, carefully peening the blade of her scythe to keep it thin.
We have also collected some yellow rattle seed, as usual; this is valuable to sow in areas where grass dominates, as it keeps the grass down and allows flowers to appear. Let us know if you’d like a bit for your own wildflower area – many people set aside some of the garden for this.
