This part of the site shows the woodland still ‘growing up’. Many trees here are young and protected so they can establish. It can look a bit scruffy in places, but that edge habitat is exactly what lots of insects and birds prefer.
Look closely at the variety of leaf shapes and the ground layer below. Leaf litter and woodchip aren’t mess: they’re the start of next year’s soil.
